Auction Raises $463,000 for Whatcom Hospice

The 19th Annual Light the Night Hospice Gala Auction held Nov. 9, 2019, at Four Points by Sheraton raised a record $463,000 for Whatcom Hospice, a service of PeaceHealth, which provides care for terminally ill patients in Bellingham and Whatcom County.

Over 340 guests attended the auction presented by Whatcom Hospice Foundation. Tammy Yorkston and Lesa Ferguson served as this year’s co-chairs.

The event featured live and silent auctions, and a sit-down dinner sponsored by WECU. The “Fund-A-Need” portion of the event raised nearly $130,000 in outright donations, thanks to a touching video sponsored by Peoples Bank. Other sponsors included Phillips 66, First Federal, Windermere Property Management and Windermere Real Estate.

Proceeds from the event enable Whatcom Hospice to offer services to patients and families above and beyond those that are reimbursed by Medicare and other insurers. Donations provide:

• Room and board assistance for the 12-bed Hospice House
• Uncompensated care
• Complimentary therapies including acupuncture and massage
• Patient and family education
• Patient and family assistance
• Bereavement resources
• Staff development
• Volunteer training
• Community education
